Mt. Vesuvius is the first volcano we are going to. It is a big stratovolcano which if it were to erupt again it would be philian eruption. Which has a high viscosity and a high gas pressure. This eruption could cause a landslide, lava flows, debris, lahars (mudslides), pyroclastic flow, ash, and plume. It stands at 4000 feet in the air. It's in Pompeii, Italy and sits on the crater of the ancient Somma volcano. Its current status is the only active volcano in mainland. The cause of this volcano is the African plate pushing beneath the Eurasian plate and in 79 A.D. it erupted which destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
The Greeks and Romans believed Vesuvius was a dwelling place for hero and demigod Hercules, and the town of Herculaneum, built on its base, was named after him too. In mythology, Hercules was the son of Zeus. Zeus was also known as Ves. Hercules was also known as Vesouvios (Son of Ves). Linguists believe “Vesouvious” later turned into “Vesuvius.” According to other sources, Vesuvius came from the Oscan work fesf, which means “smoke” or the Indo-European root ves, which means “hearth".
